Here’s Jared Leto Going Method In A ‘Suicide Squad’ Behind-The-Scenes

Around the time Suicide Squad came out, we were regaled with stories of Jared Leto‘s utterly cooked method acting techniques, and teased (or possibly threatened) with the prospect that there might be a whole movie’s worth of deleted Joker scenes out there somewhere.

The extended Blu-Ray edition of Suicide Squad is out soon, and if for some reason you don’t feel compelled to purchase the extended Blu-Ray edition of Suicide Squad, you can still check out the below clip, in which Leto and director Jared Ayer discuss his method acting in a bit more depth.
Leto said of the part: “That side of me that likes exploration, that likes adventure, that likes to push the envelope, that was set on fire immediately.” This is a person who was so committed to embodying the essence of The Joker that he whipped a live snake out on Fallon, so yeah, he was pretty super serious, guys.
A slight uncomfortable-looking Ayer added:
“During the process of figuring out the Joker and helping Jared create that character, I kinda had to say goodbye to Jared. There was a point when he went away and was replaced slowly and surely by the Joker. It was a fascinating process to watch. There was this really nice guy, a good guy with a lot of depth to him, he’s a very thoughtful person… the Joker is not someone you’d say is a really good guy.”

Watch the clip below, and clock Margot Robbie‘s seemingly genuine fear at about the 24-second mark.
