‘Suicide Squad’: Will Smith Says He’s Never Met Jared Leto, Only The Joker

The Joker is a role for which actors famously get pretty damn serious. Heath Ledger fully immersed himself in the role for The Dark Knightkeeping a detailed journal and shutting himself away to get in the mind of the character.
“He pretty well locked himself up in a hotel, in his apartment, for a month or so, to sort of galvanize the upcoming character in his own mind,” dad Kim Ledger said in a documentary about his son. “That was typical of Heath on any movie. He would certainly immerse himself in the upcoming character. I think this was just a whole new level.”
Jared Leto has taken on the role of the famous comic book villain for the upcoming Suicide Squad, and based on a recent account by co-star Will Smith, he appears to have gone full-on, balls-to-the-wall method with the role.
In a recent interview with Beats 1, Smith revealed that, in spite of working together for some time, he and Leto never actually met, because “he was all in on The Joker”, and this formed the basis for all their on-set interactions.
Smith said:
“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of “Action!” and “Cut!” I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be “Hey, Jared. What’s up?”

Suicide Squad is out in August 2016, if you can wait that long.
