This period between Christmas and New Year is a pretty standard time for everyone to be reflecting n the year that was and making plans we’ll never keep for the next. Let’s be honest, some reflections are better than others, so when Barack Obama lists his fave things from 2018 you pay attention, especially when wife Michelle’s book makes it to the top of his list and I’m tearing up because love does exist.

Honestly, between this and Michelle’s thigh high sparkly boots, the couple have literally saved 2018.
In an Instagram post, Obama continues his “favourite tradition” with list of his favourite songs, movies and books from the year. He says he enjoys taking a moment to reflect, but it’s also a good plug.
“It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.”
Topping out his list of songs is Apeshit by The Carters, and frankly same. But something particularly tickles me about imagining everyone’s favourite dad jumping around the living room to this perfect hype up song. J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B and Aussie Courtney Barnett also grace the list.
I’m definitely taking note of his movie list, because I’ve been particularly bad at keeping up with anything that wasn’t MTV reality show reruns on Stan this year – yeah I know I’m judging me too. I DID see Black Panther though, which came second on his movie list, so I’m not totally irrelevant.
But the real winner of Obama’s favourite things for 2018 list is Michelle, who topped his list of fave books with her memoir, Becoming. He accompanied the inclusion with “Obviously my favourite!” and it’s just so sweet and unfathomable in my single af life.
There’s actually quite a lot of autobiographies that sound super intriguing to me, so if your New Year’s resolution is to read more, have a squiz.
