Henry Cavill Cast As Snyder’s ‘Superman’

English actor Henry Cavill is the latest man to be bestowed with the cape and S shield as Superman/Clark Kent for Zack ‘Watchmen’ Snyder’s forthcoming adaptation of the comic book superhero, Superman: Man of Steel. Cavill is best known for his role as the Duke of Suffolk in camp historical melodrama The Tudors (clip below).

Years of Supermans (Supermen?) on film and tv have taught us that there’s only a very loose guideline for casting, which is as follows:

Must be brunette
Must be a Man
Must have three dimensional pecs
Must look like a dish in spectacles
Ditto the above for red tights

Based on our keen powers of observation Cavill appears to have the brunette, male, abs and tights thing in spades.

The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan is one of the producers of the film and also developed the story for the screenplay. With the joint superhero-movie credentials of Nolan and Snyder, this celluloid incarnation should be something worth getting excited about.

Superman: Man of Steel is set for release in December 2012.
