Grey’s Anatomy Just Brought Back A Fourth Dead Character So It’s Basically Ghost Whisperer Now

Grey's Anatomy

I stopped religiously watching Grey’s Anatomy a long time ago, and yet here I am still casually tuning in to see which dead person Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) reunites with next, during this season’s recurring dream theme.

As last week’s promo for season 17, episode 10 teased, an ageless Chyler Leigh reprised her role as Meredith’s half-sister Lexie Grey. Her character tragically died after that awful plane crash episode. We knew this was coming.

What we didn’t know – LAST SPOILER WARNING – is that Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) also returns in the episode. Unbelievable.

Lexie and Mark were supposed to live happily ever after, but all we (the fans) copped was Mark tragically professing his love to Lexie during her final moments, after she was crushed by debris from the plane.

And then he ended up dying too, because this show is ruthless.

This new episode just aired in the States and I’m happy to confirm that McSteamy is still McSteamy.

UGH.

On Instagram, Pompeo wrote that these reunion episodes have been “so emotional to film”.

“We are having the best time making this show this season. Thank you for being on this journey with us and constantly keeping us inspired with your enthusiasm!! We love and appreciate you. Enjoy the show.”

Will there be more dream reunions to come? Who’s to say. So far we’ve had Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) as well as George O’Malley (T.R. Knight).

McDreamy died back in season 11 after being hit by a semi truck when he pulled over to help a family injured in a car crash. O’Malley died in season 5 after he jumped in front of a bus to rescue a woman he didn’t know.

Leigh’s character carked it in the season 8 finale, while Dane left the series in the following season.

Seattle Grace Mercy West was renamed the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in their honour.

Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) also visited Meredith on limbo beach as he fought for his life in reality. He inevitably died though, because this show won’t stop killing off its main characters.

In Australia, you can find Grey’s Anatomy seasons 1 to 14 on Stan now. For seasons 15 to 17, head on over to Disney+, with new episodes released weekly on Fridays.

We’re a little bit behind, though. Disney+ has the first six episodes of season 17 uploaded so far. The US just premiered episode 10.
