Grand Theft Auto V Soundtrack Leaks, Is Amazing

Mass murder, vehicular destruction, becoming a one-man army and taking on an entire police force: in the soon-to-be-released Grand Theft Auto 5, you’ll be able to do all this and more, to the sounds of one of the most impressive video game soundtracks ever released.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ivan Pavlovich, soundtrack supervisor for the game explained “We have 15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score. It’s the largest soundtrack that we’ve done, and the largest score that we’ve done.”

A wealth of soundtrack information leaked last week as a pre-release assets file, delivered in advance to European Playstation 3 pre-order customers to ease release-day server congestion, was found to contain a 42-hour long audio track of
every radio station in the game. Eager Redditors were quick to pick apart the file, listing almost all the tracks that will appear in the game online. Sony has since apologised for the leak, and Rockstar Games released a statement
expressing they were “deeply disappointed”. Some of the diverse and
eclectic range of artists expected to be included in the game include NWA, Queen, Black Flag, Eddie Murphy, Kendrick Lamar, Kelly Rowland and Pulp.

The 15 in-game radio stations contain a mixture of music, advertising, and host chatter, with some big names coming in man the microphones. DJ duo Soulwax command their own set of airwaves, as do Nate Williams and Steven Pope of Wavves, Flying Lotus (who collaborated with Tyler, The Creator on a new track for the game), Bootsy Collins, and Kenny Loggins, among others.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is proving to be one of the most highly anticipated games released this year, with a release date set for September 17th, 2013.
