In Good Fuckin’ News, The ‘Deadwood’ Movie Might Finally Be Moving Forward

Folks, hold onto yer fuckin’ hats. There’s some rootin’, tootin’, good news for the ardent Deadwood fans among you. What in tarnation.

The long-dormant and hugely beloved swear-em-up HBO series has long been circling a feature film revival, one that’s been rumoured since practically the moment the show originally left the air some 11 years ago.

Despite the fact that it did indeed last air way back in 2006, a Deadwood movie has reportedly been in the works for quite some time, and now we’ve finally got the most concrete evidence yet that the dang thing is moving ahead like a steam train.

TV Line is reporting that “sources” (read into that what you will) have confirmed that production on the no-doubt very cursive flick is set to begin in the American autumn of 2018.

This rumour or confirmation or whathaveyou gives a little more clarity to comments made by HBO programming exec Casey Bloys at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour. At the time, Bloys hinted that the long-dormant project was suddenly picking up a head of steam, thanks to a recently completed script:

The one thing that I was concerned about was I wanted a script that would stand on its own.

[Series creator David Milch] totally delivered on that. I think it’s a terrific script. If we can do it on a budget that makes sense for us, and if we can get the cast together, we’re inclined to do it.

That’s all the detail that’s floating about at present; information on potential casts are practically non-existent. However you’d imagine the show would, at the very least, be gunning for Ian McShane to reprise his legendary role as Al Swearengen for the revived film.

‘Cause if they didn’t, that’d be a cryin’ fuckin’ shame now, wouldn’t it.
