‘True Detective’ Mastermind Now Workin’ On New Eps For A Redemptive S3

Finally, some good news for fans of grimy, character-driven crime dramas and those who appreciate hearing Vince Vaughn utter some ten dollar words.

Entertainment Weekly reports True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has written at least two episodes of what could become the HBO franchise’s third outing, nearly two years after the show’s hit-and-miss sophomore season.

What’s more is that Emmy-winning Deadwood writer and producer David Milch is lending a hand, which seems like good news for True Detective die-hards: not only is Milch a proven creative force, his presence could alleviate the one-man-show stress critics sensed in True Detective’s second season.

While the channel hasn’t given the thumbs up to the show’s third season, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys is on record saying they’re “open to another season,” and “it’s a valuable franchise, it’s not dead, we just don’t have a take for a third season yet.”

Perhaps more importantly is the fact season one star Matthew McConaughey has been effusive about his classic McConnaissance turn as wiry weirdo cop Rust Cohle. Last year, he said “I’ve talked to Nic about [continuing the story].”

So, don’t ditch your Lone Star tinnies or ride your motorcycle straight into the dark, ’cause one of the most compelling television outings of the past decade could be making a comeback.
