Golden Globe Awards Prep For Fuck-Off Huge Storm To Hit Cali This Weekend

Award shows give us a chance to recognise the pinnacle of human achievement in popular culture, but the huge storm system barreling over California before the Golden Globes seems poised to remind us Mother Nature don’t give a shit about the accomplishments of your favourite film and TV personalities.
Masses of rainfall and copious amounts of snow are expected to hit the state in the coming hours. The storm system, caused by a terrifying-sounding “atmospheric river”, has been described by meteorologists as a once-in-a-decade event.

While it’s thought that the worst parts of the storm will affect northern California – far away from the Golden Globes’ ceremony in Los Angeles – a fair bit of that badness is expected down south. LA residents have been advised to be on the lookout for flash-flooding, and the ceremony’s organisers have taken extra precautions, including housing the entirety of the event’s red carpet under protective tenting.

If the prospect of seeing celebs duck for cover in the midst of an almighty maelstrom is your idea of a weekend well-spent, you’ll be able to catch it go down shortly. If that doesn’t pan out, well, at least you’ve got several hours of Jimmy Fallon’s hosting to look forward to. Check out the full list of nominees here, and marvel at the serendipitous fact Hell Or High Water is nominated for Best Motion Picture.
