Get Smad, ‘Cause Melissa McCarthy Didn’t Cop ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Memo

We get how raging nostalgia works, we really, truly do. Still, next to nothing could prepare us for the utterly comprehensive outpouring of love aimed at Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix.

Perhaps it’s the show’s simple premise and no-nonsense charm. Sadly, one crucial element – ingredient, even – will be missing when the show returns next year.

We hate to break it to you, but the Independence Inn’s finest chef Sookie St. James ain’t returning to Stars Hollow, ’cause Melissa McCarthy isn’t attached to the project. At all.

Read it and weep:

The tweet comes after the show’s head honcho Amy Sherman-Palladino said “look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene.”

“Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over – even if for just a cameo – we would be totally game.”

This little nugget of sorrow comes after the majority of Gilmore Girls‘ mainstays were confirmed to return; McCarthy also hinted at her absence last year, when she told a reporter she hadn’t been clued in on the buzz for the show’s possible return.

Palladino reckons her conspicuous absence will be explained.  We all know what that means.

No date has been set for the reboot’s return, but it should be ample time for you to grieve this loss.
