Without a doubt, one of the weirdest aspects of being on the Bachelor or Bachelorette would have to be forming a genuine connection with someone you like only to dump them for someone you like better, because the reality TV format demands it.
(Unless you are Nick Viall, who I suspect does not actually have human emotions, but that’s neither here nor there).
Bachelorette Georgia Love was faced with just such a decision last year, and broke both Matty J and Australia’s hearts when she chose Lee instead during the show’s finale. We can still see Matty on the verge of tears and we’re still not okay with it.
These days, Georgia and Matty’s relationship is apparently something akin to an Adele song, one of the really sad ones, and while she doesn’t keep up with him, she wishes nothing but the best for youuuuuu him.
In a recent interview with Fairfax, Love said that she won’t be watching Matty’s upcoming season of The Bachelor, but she hopes he can find someone to spend the rest of his life with.
“I care for him very much and I genuinely want him to be happy, so I am very excited for him,” she said, adding that watching his season would be “like watching an ex dating a whole bunch of people, which no one really wants to see.” Fair.
When asked if she had any advice for Matty, she said:
“Be really, really true to himself. Don’t get swept up in the whole thing. Really stop at the end of every day and think about how you would be feeling in the real world after that date you have just been on. Not because it was beautiful and romantic and there were roses and champagne. He is a very honest, truthful and true to himself person, so I hope he continues that on The Bachelor.”
Matty has previously described what he’s looking for in a partner, and it basically boils down to someone who’s kind and funny and won’t smash his heart into a million pieces.
