‘Game Of Thrones’ Season Finale Will Be An Extremely Long 69 Minutes

Excellent news for Game of Thrones nerds: the season 6 finale is looking to be the longest ever in the show’s history, with HBO.com confirming that it’ll crack the 69 minute mark.

It’s by no means out of the ordinary for the season finale to be extra long – the finales of S2, S3, and S4 all hovered in the low 60s – but it’s a bloody yuuuuge leap from the average episode run time of 55 minutes.

HBO has also confirmed the titles of the last two episodes, and it’s looking like they’re going to be a cracker.

Episode 9 (run time: 60 minutes) is titled ‘The Battle of the Bastards‘, so it’s not a stretch to guess that it’ll feature [spoilers] a battle between John Snow and Ramsay Bolton for control of Winterfell. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have previously said that S6 will feature the largest battle in the show’s history, and precedence usually dictates that E9 is when shit hits the fan (i.e. The Red Wedding, Ned‘s head and body taking some time apart, etc). This is probably that battle.

Episode 10, however, is titled ‘The Winds of Winter‘, which is obviously the same title as George R. R. Martin‘s long-awaited sixth book in the series. We’ve got no word yet as to what it’ll contain – episode descriptions, limited as they are, are only released in the week leading up to the episode – but if you see one going around about how “Brienne meets a friend turned foe“, it’s a fake. GoT producers would never tease Lady Stoneheart that hard.
