Next Week’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Finale will be Face-Shatteringly Huge, Say Benioff and Weiss

The way things usually go in Game Of Thrones land, the action crescendos around Episode 9 of any given season, where the big deaths and shocking twists play out. This is generally followed by a cooling-off period and a reassessing of the situation in Episode 10. However, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss say that next week’s season finale will buck that trend, and may in fact be the show’s biggest and most dramatic episode.

HBO may have spooged an untold amount of money on the battle scenes in Episode 9, ‘The Watchers On The Wall’, however, Episode 10, ‘The Children’, promises to wrap up certain key story threads still left hanging. Not least of all is the fate of Tyrion Lanister, who has been banged up in a dungeon for most of the season accused of murder, and may have just seen his last hope literally crushed by gigantic, lumbering dickhead The Mountain.

“It’s the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none,” Benioff and Weiss promised in a statement. “The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new [musical] cues from Ramin Djawadi—all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced. We’re immensely proud of ‘The Children’. And a little intimidated by the episode, because now we have to get back to the business of season five and figure out a way to top it.”

So there you have it. Those who’ve read the books – or read ahead on the internet because we’re weak and can’t help ourselves – know that some serious shit is about to go down at King’s Landing. There will be intrigue and betrayal and – possible spoiler alert, although really, who the fuck are we kidding at this point? – some significant characters might even meet gruesome ends.

Some closure on the PodrickBrienne Of Tarth situation would also be nice, and if the finale spins off into a sitcom starring odd couple Arya and The Hound, we’d also be okay with that. Next Monday seems like a very long way away.
