Oh Thank Fuck, ‘Game Of Thrones’ S7 Is Going To Be Longer Than Expected

REJOICE. The seventh season of ‘Game of Thrones‘ is going to be a lot longer than we were all expecting.

The official runtimes of each and every episode have been released, and the final two episodes are absolute monsters. Episode 6 (the penultimate episode, where traditionally in ‘Game of Thrones’ all the really big shit happens) has a runtime of 71 minutes, while Episode 7 – i.e. the finale – goes for an absolute behemoth 81 minutes.

Here’s the full breakdown, via Watchers on the Wall.

Episode 1: 59 minutes.

Episode 2: 59 minutes.

Episode 3: 63 minutes.

Episode 4: 50 minutes.

Episode 5: 59 minutes.

Episode 6: 71 minutes.

Episode 7: 81 minutes.

Those final two are record-breakers, as far as runtime is concerned. The Season 6 finale, ‘The Winds of Winter‘, ran for 68 minutes, meaning the Season 7 finale smashes it by a full 13 minutes.

As Watches on the Wall points out, the average episode length is usually somewhere in the 55 minute range. So while we’re getting a full three episodes less this season than usual, HBO is damn sure making up for it.
