Over the past few weeks, HBO has teased Game Of Thrones fans with sneak peeks of each new instalment. Those images have sketched rough story outlines, and they’ve also hinted at which characters will play major roles in the closing chapter of the television juggernaut.
Usually, HBO shares a good handful of images – six or seven at a pop, maybe even eight in the case of Episode 4. In the case of Episode 6, the show’s finale, HBO has shared… two.
And that’s all you need to get the point.
In the first, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) stands before her troops in the ashen remains of King’s Landing, having successfully conquered the city. It’s an image which practically screams “BuT aT wHaT cOsT?”
The second shows her surviving advisor Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) surveying the carnage his queen has wrought. Peep that Hand of the Queen badge, and compare it to his absolutely miserable face. Dude knows he’s fucked up.
The last Game of Thrones episode airs next week. If you’re too impatient, just flick between these two images while listening to Johnny Cash do Hurt. It’ll probably have the same effect.
