Cate Blanchett x Romance Was Born For Harper’s BAZAAR

Cate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton, co-directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, will collaborate with Romance Was Born on costumes for an upcoming production of Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness.

Speaking with Harper’s BAZAAR Australia Blanchett says the actor playing Gant will wear a mirror ball cape while another character will wear a dress covered in jam rolls (a re-imaging of SS09/10’s Iced Vo Vo dress) and a corkscrew will be stuck into a top hat for another protagonist. The costumes are inspired by the colours and fabrics of circus costumes from the late 1800’s.

Blanchett is also the cover star of this month’s art themed Harper’s dressed, of course, in Romance Was Born. She wears a black lace and floral applique dress from the label’s AW11 collection, ‘Fruits and Flowers’ while adjoining editorial shows her in a number of other current garments.

“I love Romance Was Born because they have a great anarchic freedom. We enjoy their company. They’ve had a couple of shows in the space here [at Sydney Theatre Company’s The Wharf] and they always come to our Christmas parties. I remember Luke came dressed as a bear one year. He had this huge Muppet head on. That was fabulous,” Blanchett tells the magazine. We think huge Muppet heads are fabulous too. Check out the editorial below…
