The Best Magazine Covers Of 2014

We’re nary a week into MMXIV, the 2014th Year of the Common Era Of Fashion Magazines, and yet it feels like the perfect time to start sprouting all kinds of inane hyperbole about ‘literally dying’ and ‘not even dealing’ when it comes to the year’s best magazine covers thus far. Here are a few of the rags competing for whatever remains your Christmas bonus, the part you haven’t already squandered on questionable sparkling wine and restorative kale.
Naomi Campbell x Harper’s Bazaar Singapore
Sporting an appropriately choppy Caesar style fringe and Roman coin laden wizard’s sleeve number by Dolce & Gabbana, Naomi looks poised to both bathe in the blood of a thousand virgin handmaidens and kill it with fire in 2014. ‘It’ being you, should you keep getting in her way, Coco.
Keira Knightley x Harper’s Bazaar UK
Shot by Alexi Lubomirski and wearing two painterly, impasto palette looks from Chanel’s S/S2014 collection, Keira Knightley is poised at all kinds of awkward angles in front of a radiator on the cover of Harper’s. She accessorises with a baller #pearlnecklace and her twee Chanel ballet flats.

Candace Swanpoel x Vogue Brasil
¿Qué! Though the face says ‘***Flawless male impersonator’ [IMHO], Candace Swanepoel’s incredible bo’day on the cover of Vogue Brasil shot by Mariano Vivanco is all the hopelessly unattainable fitspo you’ll ever need and more. The impossibly ‘fierce’, angular black and white cover is accompanied by a slightly more dang ‘beauty pageant: swimsuit segment’ edition shot by Zee NunesMore like Zee Nope.

Anja Rubik x Vogue Korea
‘Super dogs meet super models’ in this vibrant Alexi Lubomirski lensed issue of Vogue Korea, featuring golden, pole thin Pole, Anja Rubik. Mmm, creamy pin-stripe pantsuit.
Cate Blanchett x Vogue US
On her fifth Vogue US cover – this one shot by Craig McDean – Australia’s alabaster thespian unicorn godmother Cate Blanchett wears Céline S/S2014 and the permanently unfazed expression of a class act with certified acting chops and the Miracle of Pitera™ at her disposal.
Miranda Kerr x Harper’s Bazaar Australia
Serial (alleged) sex pest Terry Richardson captured Miranda Kerr Inc. in the liminal stage between marriage and sexy, single motherhood wearing this low-cut, highly-metaphoric Victoria Beckham Le Smokin’ which accentuates the model mogul’s diverse interests and passions – including fresh air, being chic and being so blessed. The naval grazing split also accentuates her breasts; the unfortunately placed headline also brings to mind the image of her doing bendy sex things with James Packer.
Miranda Kerr x Elle China
Not sure who shot Miranda Kerr looking like a half-plucked marabou (possibly wearing Dries Van Noten) on one of these Elle China covers and like an If You Are The One contestant in the hallucinogenic grips of avian flu on the other, but I dig this vibe. The vibe being ‘batshit fashion’, ICYMI.

Cara Delevigne x Vogue UK and Numero Tokyo
In one corner, we have Cara Delevigne, the ‘model who was liked into superstardom’ smouldering in a frankly terrible Saint Laurent Paris ensemble. In the other, we have Cara Delevigne, the blue blooded aristocrat who’s rich enough to have a parent called Pandora. For the latter, she was shot looking serene and uncharacteristically poised by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello and wears Burberry Prorsum

Victoria and David Beckham x Paris Vogue
Inez & Vinoodh captured these humble Tens in a dramatic reenactment of Beauty & The Beast. Not sure which would be which; both are viable options. Victoria also guest edits the issue, in which she shares her passions, her private life, her beauty secrets and her fashion destiny (?).

Kate Moss x Playboy
Shot by Mert & Marcus, Moss, soon to be 40, wears a sexy bunny costume and not even a hint of remorse.
