The Hills: New Beginnings stars Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have split, a year after their wedding in Bali. But apparently the pair were never legally married so this is just a straight up breakup, instead of a divorce.

Reps for the celebrities confirmed the breakup in a statement, which read: “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”
Jenner and Carter, who met back in 2013, threw an intimate wedding on Sumba Island last June. However according to TMZ, the couple did not obtain a marriage license in the U.S. so the union was never actually legal.

“Brody and Kaitlynn have had issues for years,” a source told People. “It is no secret amongst those who knew them. And the show was not good for them.”
“It got so bad that Kaitlynn had actually moved out before they started filming, but then moved back in. Doing The Hills magnified a lot of things in their marriage,” the source continued. “And it became clear that it wasn’t going to work. They both knew it.”
A second source told People that the couple had split because Carter wanted to legalise the marriage and start a family, while Jenner didn’t.
The split comes after a heap of visible tension on The Hills reboot. At one point, Carter confronted Jenner over claims that he had swanned around town saying they were in an open relationship.
