Beyoncé and Jay-Z To Trademark Blue Ivy

There’s no business like show business and there’s no business to be had where the name ‘Blue Ivy‘ is concerned – that is, if the application Bey and Jay have submitted to the US Trademark and Patent Office to add a superscript ™ to her birth certificate is approved.

BeJayZé (I’m going to take out a patent on that) filed an application to protect Blue Ivy Carter’s name against unwanted use, filing the proposal under Beyoncé’s company BGK Trademark Holdings. Who do I talk to about getting some shares in BGK?

Family Law Attorney Vikki Zieglar told MTV News that “[Seeking the trademark] forestalls competitors from using the child’s name and or third parties from attempting to sell the baby’s name back to the couple. They are likely trying to protect what they rightfully own or created, shall we say, by trademarking Blue Ivy’s name.”

The Patent Office has already denied two prior applications applications from fashion designer Joseph Mbeh to patent “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” and by another unnamed designer to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” for a fragrance line on account of it belonging to a “very famous infant.”

Kudos, Patent Office. Those names are patently ©®AP anyway. Oh, and nobody tell BeyJayJay about this.
