Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have finalised their divorce, more than three years after announcing their separation, after a judge told them that they would have to hurry up or start the process over again.

Per court documents obtained by People, the former couple met at Garner’s house on Thursday, along with lawyers and a private judge, whose presence she had requested to handle some of the final details of the proceedings.
The pair officially filed for divorce in April of 2017, but earlier this year, a judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court told them off, warning them that their matter might be dismissed as they were taking too long.
The had been reports that Jennifer Garner was holding off on the divorce until Ben Affleck could maintain his sobriety, and earlier this year, he entered a rehab facility in Malibu, at her urging, to seek treatment for alcohol addiction.
He recently left the centre after completing a 40-day program, and said in a statement to Instagram:
“The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others. Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.”

All that’s left now is for the relevant court documents to be submitted and stamped, a process that will likely be wrapped up by the end of the year.
