Like a rollercoaster that ends with a slap in the face, the are-they-aren’t-they divorce rumours surrounding American sweethearts Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have finally been confirmed. They’re getting divorced. For realsies this time.
The pair first separated in 2015, announcing the separation just a day after their 10th wedding anniversary amid reports of infidelity (Affleck was rumoured to have been sleeping with the nanny). Then in March of this year, our hearts gave a collective leap when a “source” told People magazine that the two were reconciling:
“Jen has called off the divorce,” the source said. “She really wants to work things out with Ben. They are giving things another try.”
Lies! Nothing but sweet, sweet lies.
Garner filed her divorce papers on Thursday and Affleck swiftly followed. They’re both doing it lawyer-less and going through a mediator rather than taking it to court, all of which suggests the split is about as amicable as it can be – particularly considering that they didn’t have a prenup.
Both are keen to split their assets and custody of their three kids evenly down the middle and… I feel like I’m veering into the realm of fiction here. Is it possible for people to be this chill about divorce?
Apparently so, and good on ’em, I guess. But jeez, you guys. We’re gonna miss the best Bennifer.
