Australia, These Are Your Celebrities, Get Them Out Of Here

The Australian edition of I’m A Celebrity .. Get Me Out Of Here launched last night on Ten, with 10 individuals of some renown dumped into the South African wilderness to survive on their wits and whatever else a TV production company can provide.

Sadly, none of our picks made the cut, so if you tuned in, you won’t have seen Pauline Hanson, Kyle Sandilands, Frances Abbott or The Gobbledok fighting off baboons or getting covered in elephant dung, as happened yesterday evening.

That said, these are the people who meet the working definition of ‘celebrity’:

Andrew Daddo: TV personality, author, Daddo brother.
Joel Creasey: Stand-up comedian, presenter.
Chrissie Swan: Big Brother 2003 runner-up, columnist.
Lauren Brandt: Former Hi-5 member.
Tyson Mayr: Underwear model, professional traveler.
Barry Hall: Former Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs player.
Laura Dundovic: Miss Universe Australia 2008, TV host.
Leisel Jones: Former Olympic swimmer, motivational speaker.
Maureen McCormick: Marcia from the goddamn Brady Bunch.
Merv Hughes: Former fast bowler, imposing moustache-haver.
Per reports in News Limited and Fairfax, the show, which features a 380-strong crew, will air five nights a week, from Sunday to Thursday, and run for “up to six weeks.”
TBH, the best bit was seeing all the humble brags on Twitter from people who claimed they turned down the show and / or weren’t asked to come:

Em Rusciano knows what’s up:

Amidst the snark, some more serious questions were raised about the diversity of the show’s cast:
Australia, gird your loins for up to six more weeks of this.
