What is this we have here??? A fun teen rom-com to distract us from the unending cycle of doom and gloom??? ‘Cos that’s exactly what Netflix has churned out. It’s called He’s All That and it stars TikTok influencer Addison Rae.
If the title of the film doesn’t give it away for you, the movie is basically a reimagining of the 1999 teen rom-com She’s All That, starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. It is an absolute classic and a ’90s teen flick staple, if you ask moi.
In this new version, teen social media influencer Padgett Sawyer (Addison Rae) is humiliated on-camera after her breakup goes boonta viral, leading her to make a risky bet to save her reputation.
What is the bet, you ask?
WELL, she swears to turn the scruffy antisocial Cameron Kweller (Cobra Kai‘s Tanner Buchanan) into prom king material. But things get complicated when she finds herself falling for him. Classic.
Addison’s good mate Kourtney Kardashian is also randomly in this movie, because why not?
Kourtney will play a character named Jessica Miles Torres, although it’s still unclear what her relation to Padgett is.
The film is directed by Mark Waters, who also helmed Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, and the script was penned by R. Lee Fleming, who wrote She’s All That. So I have hope this movie will be better than it… uh… looks. The general reactions to the trailer have either been very good, or very bad.
But hey, it’s a fun rom-com and we all need a little bit of that right now.
He’s All That premieres on Netflix, August 27.
Yes, that is Rachael Leigh Cook as Padgett’s mum. How bloody cute! But if Freddie Prinze Jr. doesn’t cameo in this, then I riot.
If you have a sudden hankering to watch the original movie, then you can catch She’s All That on Stan now. Never gets old.
