ACA Proves It’s Not Completely Useless, Helps Raise $1M For Pregnant Widow

Perhaps it’s never quite hit the level of rock bottom that Today Tonight (RIP, tbh) once did, but Channel Nine’s A Current Affair has undoubtedly had its fair share of TV transgressions.

But amidst its nightly take down of supermarket prices, heartless bureaucrats and terrible neighbours—usually within a single episode—ACA and its viewership proved they do have hearts, after launching a nationwide appeal for Sharon Chan – a recently widowed, pregnant mother of (soon-to-be) three.

Youngest son Oli was born with Down syndrome and diagnosed with leukaemia 18 months ago, and Chan’s husband Robert died suddenly in their family home just two weeks ago. At the time of writing a fund supporting the Chan family has skyrocketed to over $1.15 million.

Tracy Grimshaw the Dole Bludger Slayer said in a statement: “Stories like Sharon’s make us appreciate how precious life is, and how quick we all are in our day to day lives to sweat the small stuff. She has been dealing challenges that would bring most people to their knees. And Australians saw that and wanted to help. It’s been a lovely week to come to work.

Smiles all round! ?? A very happy morning for Sharon, William, Oli and the entire #ACA9 team! Donations can still be…
