Following the torrents of criticism and downright disgust Channel Seven’s Sunrise received after an all-white panel discussed whether Australia needed a second Stolen Generation or not, the morning show will now have a three-person Indigenous panel to discuss child welfare.
Sunrise confirmed the news in a tweet tonight.
Tune in tomorrow for a special edition of Hot Topics, covering the issue of child welfare with three Indigenous panellists who are experts in their field.

As you know, the original segment aired after assistant children’s minister David Gillespie proposed non-Indigenous families should be allowed to adopt Indigenous children in order to save them from neglect and assault. Gillespie had originally spoken to the Courier Mail who seemed to interchange the minister’s words of ‘non-Indigenous’ with ‘white’. Then Sunrise picked it up and this happened.
The day after the segment aired, protesters descended on Martin Place only to find their signs and chants were blocked by the morning show. Sunrise instead showed a pre-recorded viewing of Martin.
The segment will air tomorrow Tuesday at 6:45AM.
