Watch The Trailer For Mary Harron and Lily Cole’s “The Moth Diaries”

Mary Harron, who directed cult classic American Psycho, is making a return to the silver screen with “The Moth Diaries“, starring retired British supermodel turned actress and art history ace, Lily Cole.

Harron’s previous small-screen ventures have included stints directing for Big Love, Six Feet Under and The L Word, while Cole has been racking up a pretty impressive filmic resume, starring opposite Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, as well a role as Alice in Marylin Manson’s post-poned Lewis Carroll re-imagining.

The Moth Diaries” is yet another addition to the ubiquitous novel-turned-vampire-film genre and looks something like the halfway point between Let The Right One In and Twilight, with a premise reading along the lines of: mysterious new student arrives at an all girls boarding school, comes between the two best friends that anyone could have, and may or may not be a vampire. There’s also an almost-meta like acknowledgment of the tropes of vampire novels (“blood, sex, death“) , which the film self-referentially ticks off and might save it from sinking into the realm of cliché. Not that there’s a lot at (wooden) stake here.

The poster is also stupidly similar to The Silence of The Lambs and Twilight. Fail. See below.
