Facebook has taken another step on the path to becoming the internet’s one-stop shop by launching a chat room feature.
Yep, they’ve reinstated an element of Web 2.0 we thought social media was meant to render extinct, and the unrepentant forum-stalkers in us are kinda intrigued.
Named Rooms, aptly enough, the feature has popped up in Australia before the monolithic online mainstay rolls it out worldwide.
It’s tacked on to the Messenger app, and it operates in much the same way as group chats do, except Rooms allow you to mingle with strangers regarding any topic of your choosing.
So, uh, yeah. Chat rooms, without the endless reams of BBCode. Think an untested homunculus of Reddit and 4Chan with less grossness, and you’re halfway there.
This new Facebook chatroom feature is going to be great for intellectual discourse. pic.twitter.com/0J1KYmAxYt
