Rumours You Can Choose Genders In The New ‘Zelda’ Game Are Most Pleasing

Okay, okay, okay. In all, 110% tried and true honesty – this is just rumours at this stage. But it’s very very cool, so please forgive us for getting prematurely excited.
According to NintendoLife blog, their sources say there’s a very good chance that in the next ‘Legend of Zelda‘ game, you’ll be able to choose between a female or a male protagonist.
There’s speculation that this could mean a female Link, but it’s also likely that there will be a brand new female character. ‘Linkle’, or the female Link, has been an idea that’s been floating around the Internet for a while now:
Either could mean slightly different changes to your adventure depending on what character or gender identity you choose!
However, Thomas Whitehead from NintendoLife said this in a 2015 feature which delves into the topic of the elusive ‘female Link’:

“Having a male / female choice in The Legend of Zelda for Wii U need not affect the story or how the game’s played in any way, especially as it’s now so common and standard in the open-world RPG genre.

The hero is the player remember, as Aonuma-san has suggested, and so providing that choice – whether with customisation or just one fixed variation for each gender – lets the player be their own kind of hero.

You think the hero should always be a man or boy called Link? Fine, you could choose the male option and call him Link. No problem.”
So fkn cool. It’s thought that the new ‘Legend of Zelda‘ game will coincide with Nintendo’s next hardware (rather than the struggling Wii U or the Nintendo NX), which is said to be arriving end of 2016/early 2017.
We’ll update this story as soon as any confirmation arises. Fingers crossed, everyone!
