Another day, another story about the subject of a meme being somewhat displeased by said meme.
Today it’s Denzel Washington, legendary actor and notoriously cranky man, who is none-too-chuffed about his starring role in the brief #UncleDenzel phenomenon which spread across Twitter last year. It centred around a picture of Denzel looking a helluva lot like an uncle.
The gags were solid, and remain so.

Hi. I’m Denzel Washington and I have DirectTV.
and I’m Uncle Denzel and I’ve got cable. pic.twitter.com/labuc5gA6X— Ol’ QWERTY Bastard (@TheDiLLon1) May 3, 2015
On the promo trail for the Magnificent Seven, Washington addressed the meme – because we all needed his comment on this, obviously – and in trademark Denzel style, he hates it:
For all those who laughed at “Uncle Denzel” Mr. Washington has a message he wants me to give to you. #Mag7 pic.twitter.com/9kOVbQ3kXQ

“They didn’t know what I was doing,” he said to Global Grind’s BlogXilla.
“They don’t need to know. Those who can, do, those who can’t talk about those who can. I’m gonna say it again. Send that out. Those who can, do, those who can’t talk about those who can. Now can you, or can you not? Are you just one that sits on the sidelines and talks about other people or can you step up?”
That feels like a football prep speech more than anything. Sounds like something he said in Remember The Titans. Anyway, he ain’t happy.
