Disney might be going absolutely boonta with the live-action remakes, but truth be told there is only one that matters: Beauty and the Beast.
The film, starring Emma Watson as the aforementioned Beauty and Dan Stevens as the aforementioned Beast, has been hyped to the max ever since casting directors peered inside the sweaty minds of the internet and decided that Belle was obvi the Hermione Granger of 1740s France. Emma Watson = max hype.
Also: Beauty and the Beast is the best of Disney’s classics, do not even try and win this fight.
Entertainment Weekly has now published the first official pics from the film. React at will.
That iconic yellow dress? Coming to a costume exhibit near you.
Here they are again:
And here’s our first image of Gaston, played by Luke Evans (The Hobbit, Girl on the Train), and looking delightfully smouldering.
On the left is LeFou, played by Josh Gad. No shade – Gad’s probably gonna do a great job – but if his voice makes you want to spoon your own eyeballs out, it’s because he’s also the voice of Frozen‘s worst character, Olaf the snowman.
And now, for the ‘help’. It’s not the first time we’ve seen Lumère (Ewan McGregor) and Cogsworth (Sir Ian McKellen), but it IS the first time we’ve seen the animated clutter with Mrs Potts (Emma Thompson) and Plumette (Gugu Mbatha-Raw).
Belle’s irresponsible dad Maurice is played by Kevin Kline, seen here about to fuck up his daughter’s life by getting lost in a clown car.
And… here’s a couple more pics of Emma Watson on set. Enjoy!
EW also brought the news that the film’s iconic score will feature a couple new songs, as well as the classics – though not, sadly, one sung by Ian McKellen.
“I kept singing what I thought would be a rather good addition to the score,” he told the magazine. “My name is Cogsworth / And I’m a clock! / Ticktock! But I didn’t get my own song.”
Petitioning rn for one of those songs to be Ewan McGregor’s Lumère singing Belle a lullaby. For… research.
