In a development to file under ‘Best Bit Of Casting News We’ve Heard All Day’, sub-category ‘We Literally Can’t Even’, Emma Watson has announced that she will be playing the role of Belle in Disney’s upcoming live-action Beauty And The Beast.
The actress / inspiring speech-giver / all around pretty rad human being took to Facebook earlier today with the good news, saying:
I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx
The script is to be penned by Stephen Chbosky, who directed Watson in an adaptation of his own novel The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Watson’s Facebook post has already edged close to a million likes, because for once, everyone agrees that this is a damn good idea.
It remains to be seen whether the new version will go all revisionist on our asses:
