R.I.P. Australian Music Legend Jimmy Little

Today it has been confirmed that, sadly, legendary Australian singer-songwriter Jimmy Little passed away at age 75 after an ongoing battle with kidney disease and diabetes.

A true icon of the Australian music scene and pioneer for popular Aboriginal-Australian artists, Little’s music career spanned six decades comprising over 30 acclaimed albums, an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame (1999) and recipient of the Order of Australia Medal. He became as well known for his philanthropic achievements as he was his soulful country croon with The Jimmy Little Foundation, an organisation dedicated to increasing the life expectancy of indigenous Australians.

During the most recent phase of his long, esteemed music career Little released Messenger, an album of his reinterpretations of contemporary Australian artists including The Go-Betweens, Nick Cave, and this wonderful cover of The Church‘s single “Under The Milky Way”.
