Chet Faker, REMI Among 9 Artists Shortlisted For The Australian Music Prize

The Cooper’s Australian Music Prize is kind of a big deal to artists in the local industry. Now in its tenth year, the prize represents a boost to exposure for up-and-coming artists, as well as a tidy little purse to take home as well.

The award is being handed out in under two months, and now the list of albums who are in the running has been culled down from an extremely lengthy and impressive longlist to a shortlist of just nine albums – and they’re all bloody spectacular efforts as well.
The nine who made the cut represent a diverse and high quality array of sounds, styles and approaches to music, whilst all retaining an inherent link to their Australiana.
Among the more notable mentions is your boy Chet Faker, whose monster 2014 LP Built On Glass continues to take on all comers, threatening to turn a massive 2014 into an even bigger 2015.
And if the appearance of the name #1 Dads on the list rings a few bells of familiarity for those with a somewhat more intimate awareness of the award’s history, it’s because the man behind the numerical fathers in Tom Iansek took out the award last year as a member of Big Scary.
Seriously though, it’s a banner time for Australian music, and this list of albums goes a long way towards proving that. Every album brilliant and unique in their own way with barely any stylistic or genre crossover. Way to be, Australia. Way to bloody be.
The full shortlist reads a little something like this.
