Well this absolutely sucks: Blink-182 bassist/singer Mark Hoppus has revealed he is battling cancer, in raw and honest social media post where he expressed how “scared” the situation has made him.
The legendary 49-year-old pop punk powerhouse confirmed his cancer diagnosis, revealing he’s been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for the past three months. Hoppus stopped short of confirming exactly what cancer he is battling, but stated that “it sucks and I’m scared,” but that he is “blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this.”
“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive. Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future,” the post read.

Mark Hoppus initially confirmed his cancer diagnosis via an Instagram Story that was posted and swiftly deleted. The image, captured in screenshots by fans, shows Hoppus receiving cancer treatment with the accompanying caption “yes hello, one cancer treatment please.”

Blink-182 last released Nine in 2019, and have openly talked about plans to release new material this year. Hoppus has previously confirmed that the band plans to release an EP in 2021, including a song recorded in collaboration with Juice Wrld.
No further information on Hoppus’ health or diagnosis was available at the time of writing.
Hoppus, along with Blink-182, is easily one of the more influential and widely loved music figures of the past 25 years. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
