A bunch of people around the world were randomly logged out of their Facebook accounts due to a glitch yesterday, with many still unable to log back into their accounts today.
Facebook has put this down to a “configuration change” and have notified the public on Twitter to say the issue has now been resolved.
We’re looking into reports of people being logged out and having to login again to access their Facebook accounts. We’re working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

“We’re looking into reports that some people are currently having to login again to access their Facebook accounts,” Facebook said in a statement.
“We believe this was due to a configuration change and we’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
The mass log out affected thousands of people, according to downdetector.com. But that’s only from people who registered the issue. It also peaked at around 3:50pm AEDT, according to the same website.
I personally experienced the Facebook log out, but was lucky enough to log in again. However, some people are still waiting to access their accounts again, after they experienced password/two-factor authentication issues.

Two factor authentication is NOT working after this mass logout. None of the codes generated from Duo Mobile are being accepted. I’m still unable to access my account or remedy this issue. What next, FB? Can you also help, @duohelp?

Of course, it wasn’t long before the memes came rolling in under the hashtag #sofacebook and #facebookdown. The issue also seemed to only affect iPhone users, and TRUST.

And then there’s that weird theory that everyone was logged out because of a hack that leaked porn all over the Facebook video section.

The log out also gave rise to another theory about why it only affected iPhone users.
#SoFacebook word is that Facebook’s recent logout of users was targeted at Apple users due to Apple’s new software in the iOS 14.4 update that blocks Facebook’s Ad tracking algorithm. #Facebook #Apple #iOS144

Even Facebook itself jumped on the bandwagon, so now the joke is LAME. Thanks, Facebook.
So Facebook, heard it was a “configuration change”.
👏👏👏 to the engineers who fixed the issue and patiently tried to explain the cause to us to no avail. https://t.co/AUARhCZ7W2

So Facebook, how you gonna come back from this one?
