An Instagram Bug Is Deleting People’s Accounts & Everyone’s Freaking Out

Uh oh, Instagram dun goofed up today and the internet is pissed.

A swathe of users have been unable to log in to the popular social media platform over the past 24 hours, prompting some mighty backlash on-the-line, accusing them of deleting accounts with no explanation at all.
Shit hit critical levels when Instagram sent out a generic tweet that copped some massive shade.

Similar reports also popped up on Facebook and Reddit. If this has also happened to you, don’t freak out. A spokesperson has told The Verge that they’re working on the problem.
“We’re aware of a bug that is causing some users to be logged out of their accounts,” they said. “We’re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

If you go to an affected user’s profile, you’ll get the “sorry, this page isn’t available”, message. It doesn’t look like there’s any connection between the accounts to indicate they were shafted for a reason, so it probably is just a bug.
Some users say the app prompted them to enter their phone number to verify the account, but never received the confirmation SMS and had their accounts disabled anyway.
Here’s what some of the errors look like, in case Instagram is giving you a hard time as well.

Reports from earlier this week reckon Instagram has been cracking down on fake accounts and spammy influencers, but no one knows whether this spate of deletions is related to that just yet.
What a bummer.
