Wholesome man Lin-Manuel Miranda gave fans a welcome shock when he suddenly appeared on stage at the end of a Hamilton show in Detroit on Wednesday.

The Tony Award winner was hiding backstage as actors promoted Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS – a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing people across America with medication, healthcare, meals, counselling, and emergency financial assistance. Since 1988, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has raised more than USD $300 million for people with HIV/AIDS.

To encourage donations, the theatre was selling pens, tote bags, and cast-signed posters.

“You may have heard of this guy, Lin-Manuel Miranda,” a performer on stage can be heard saying.  “So, Lin is not here,” he says genuinely thinking Miranda was not at the theatre. He even begins to promote the posters Miranda had signed for charity when the bloody legend suddenly runs on stage.

“Thank you for supporting live theatre!” Miranda says. “I love you, Detroit. I signed a fresh batch of posters for you. Thank you so much.”

Miranda live-streamed the surprise on Twitter.

Last week, Miranda once again proved why he’s such an angel by leading the social media campaign to help save One Day At A Time from cancellation. The delightful Cuban-American series is a remake of the Norman Lear sitcom and follows three generations of a family.

In a statement, Netflix said the show would come to an end after three seasons due to poor viewership.

Immediately, Miranda – like he did when Brooklyn Nine-Nine was cancelled by FOX – set out to save the show, even filming a video with the one and only Rita Moreno (Lydia).
