Melbourne Gangland Boss Tony Mokbel In Critical Condition After Prison Stabbing

Drug lord Tony Mokbel is reportedly in a a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after he was stabbed at Victoria‘s maximum security Barwon Prison. 

According to reports, Mokbel was stabbed several times in the chest and was barely conscious when emergency services arrived at the facility at about 3:45pm on Monday afternoon.

Mokbel, 53, was airlifted to hospital.

Another prisoner, a 31-year-old, was also attacked and has been taken to a Geelong hospital in a serious condition, Nine News reports.

Barwon Prison, where convicted murderer and drug trafficker Carl Williams was killed, is still in lockdown.

A Victoria Government spokesperson has confirmed the incident is being thoroughly investigated.

“All violent incidents in custodial facilities are investigated and there will be a full review of this incident.

“As this is currently an ongoing police investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Mokbel was sentenced to 30 years’ prison in 2012 for serious drug crimes and was ordered to serve at least 22 years behind bars.

He has recently been in headlines after it was revealed his former lawyer, known as Lawyer X or Informer 3833, is an informant for the Victoria Police. Lawyer X has reportedly represented a number of high-profiled gangland figures while supplying information about them to the police.

As a result, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a royal commission into the state’s police management of informants.
