Man Rushed To Hospital After Being Stabbed Multiple Times At Popular Cafe In St Kilda

Melbourne, St Kilda

A man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the neck multiple times at a popular cafe in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda this morning.

Police say they were called to the Staple Providore & Cafe on Fitzroy Road at around 10am, responding to reports of an “altercation” at the venue.

A police statement said that:

“It is believed an altercation broke out at a cafe along Fitzroy Street just before 10am.  A man received multiple stab wounds to the upper body and was transported to hospital with serious injuries. A 42-year-old St Kilda man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.”

It is believed that the two men involved in the incident may have been known to each-other, and one eyewitness told the Herald Sun that their dispute may been over “a woman.”

Patrons at the popular St Kilda cafe reportedly stepped in to the fray after the incident, and performed a citizen’s arrest, detaining the alleged offender until police arrived.

Another patron assisted the victim as he waited for medical personnel. The cafe has closed for the rest of the day, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
