The Preatures’ Guide To Sydney

To celebrate the imminent release of their debut full-length album, ‘Blue Planet Eyes’Izzy, Luke and Jack from The Preatures take us on a guided tour of the place where they made it – Sydney.
EAT
IZZI: Faheem Fast Food on Enmore Rd – no alcohol, cricket on the TV, and Sydney’s best Pakistani food. Try the Aloo Baingan, Okra Lamb, Mixed Dahl and Chicken Tikka. Naan fresh from the tandoor are great too.
LUKE: Shisha Bar & Restaurant – It’s close to my house and the owners are really welcoming and energetic with a real passion for the quality of their food and service. NOM Pizza – It was always my best friend’s dream to own a pizza shop and here it is in fine form. Best pizza.
JACK: Yok Yor on Campbell st, CBD: Good cheap Thai, and chefs in yellow hard hats. Enough said. Bread and Circus, Fountain St Alexandria. The best sandwich plate, and amazing salad/soup. One of the few places doing consistently great things with seasonal produce.
Faheem Fast Food: 194-196 Enmore Rd., Marrickville NSW 2204
Shisha Bar & Grill: 61 Georges River Rd Croydon Park NSW 2133
NOM Pizza: 2/205 Victoria Rd, Marrickville NSW 2204
Yok Yor Thai Food Factory: Shop G06, 323 Castlereagh St, Haymarket NSW 2000
Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen: 21 Fountain St, Alexandria NSW 2015
DRINK
IZZI: Golden Age Cinema Bar. It’s small, classy and they do a kickass Negroni. I love coming here to see films and eat the delicious choc tops.
LUKE: Frankie’s when it’s quiet, it’s a really cool vibe but everyone shares the same thought so I’ve had the best time when it’s not as full. The Merton Hotel, cool pub with no pokies.
JACK: The Old Growler, William Street. My new favourite local brewery Young Henry’s on tap, and it’s right next door to my favourite book/record store (previously Bugden’s, now called Grand Days). East Sydney Hotel/the old ‘Three Weeds’ on Cathedral and Crown Woolloomooloo. This is a great old pub, regulars, wood walls, no pokies, and used to be stumbling distance from home for me. (I also love The Old Fitzroy up the road, beer and Laksa)
Golden Age Cinema & Bar: 80 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills NSW 2010
Frankie’s: 50 Hunter St, Sydney NSW 2000
The Merton Hotel: 38 Victoria Rd Rozelle NSW
The Old Growler: 218 William St, Woolloomooloo NSW 2011
The East Sydney Hotel: Crown St, Woolloomooloo NSW 2011
The Old Fitzroy Hotel: 129 Dowling St, Woolloomooloo NSW 2011
SHOP
IZZI: Deus Ex Machina, Desordre.
LUKE: Topman, Uniqlo and festival merch stands. I’m a sucker for simple clothes and band shirts.
JACK: Grand Days books and records, William St. When I was 16 I bought Jeff Beck’s ‘Truth’ LP, on which were the instructions ‘Play Loud’ and I was encouraged to do so by a guy also shopping for records. Try-before-you-buy at it’s most observant. Old Bugden himself was pleased. Vintage Club on Parramatta rd. Cute couple share their eye for collectible bits, and the occasional great piece of Japanese hi-fi equipment, like the stuff you’d see on the old Air website.
Deus Ex Machine: 98-104 Parramatta Rd, Camperdown NSW 2050.
Desorde: 323 South Dowling St. Darlinghurst NSW 2010.
Topman: Gowings Building, Corner Market And George St, Sydney NSW 2000.
Grand Days: Shop 1, 220 William St Woolloomooloo, NSW, 2011.
Vintage Club: 121 Parramatta Rd, Annandale NSW 2038
PARTY
IZZI: Tio’s, Cliff Dive.
LUKE: I don’t party.
JACK: Brighton/Brighton Up Bar, Oxford st. Almost all parties lead to the Brighton.  Low 302, Crown St. Aref the proprietor is a gentleman of the first order, and the feel of this place has always been proper. Plus his taste in music is as good as his taste in liquor.
Tio’s: 4–14 Foster St, Surry Hills NSW 2010.
The Cliff Dive: 16-18 Oxford Square, Darlinghurst NSW 2010.
Brighton Up Bar: 1/77 Oxford St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010
Low 302: 302 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010.
COFFEE
LUKE: Sample on Holt Street for coffee. Close to the studio. Good coffee, good guys and fresh playlists between rehearsals.

Sample Coffee: 1a/118 Devonshire St, Sydney NSW 2010.
