Leonardo DiCaprio Plans To ‘Heal’ Tropical Island, Build Eco Luxury Resort

I worry for Leo, sometimes. The Academy’s lifelong vendetta against him will surely reach breaking point at some stage, and I wonder if his oscar-baiting role in ‘The Crowded Room’ will see him finally secure anything after playing 24 roles. A snub off that sort of performance could break a man.

And so an Interview published overnight with the New York Times is reassuring stuff, to be honest, because your boy is officially crafting out his fallback career – with plans to “heal”—yes, heal—an island off Belize and construct a luxury eco resort on its shores. Opening for business in 2018, according to the NYT, the island resort will be called “Blackadore Caye: A Restorative Island” with “luxury resorts, with sprawling villas, infinity pools and stunning sunset views.”

Would.

On the purpose behind the eco island, Leo told the NYT:

“The main focus is to do something that will change the world. I couldn’t have gone to Belize and built on an island and done something like this, if it weren’t for the idea that it could be groundbreaking in the environmental movement.”

DiCaprio’s project—in partnership with developer company Delos—prioritises its environmental and ecological impact. Leo says:

“With the onset of climate change, there are huge challenges, so we want the structure to not only enhance and improve the environment, but to be a model for the future. That includes restoring the island, creating conservation areas where we can hold research conferences, and regenerating the entire ecosystem to bring it back to its original form and beyond.”

Aside from vacation accommodation, the island will reportedly house 48 permanent dwellings, with prices estimated between $5 million and $15 million. I want to go to there.

Leonardo DiCaprio bought the island in 2005 for the same price one pretty much expects to pay for a relatively boring 4 bedder family home on Sydney’s North Shore: $1.75 million. Spending those fun coupons wisely.
