Citizens of Brisvegas, rejoice: you’re about to get a hell of a lot closer to actual Las Vegas.
Qantas has just announced that they’re gonna be basing half of their mega-long, super-flashy Boeing 787-900 Dreamliners outta Brisbane.
Cool! But what does this mean for you?!
Basically, the aircrafts’ non-stop ultra-long-haul capabilities mean there are gonna be a heck tonne more direct flights to the USA. Dallas, Las Vegas, Vancouver, Chicago and Seattle are are just a few of the cities the big boi jets will be flying to.
Qantas chief exec, Alan Joyce, said the aircrafts will be touching down from mid-next year. What’s more, every category of seat will supposedly be a step up in luxury from the current offerings. Cattle class, put your dang hands in the air.
Julieanne Alroe, Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO and Managing Director said the announcement will be nothing but grouse for the state of Queensland.
“These new aircraft have a flight range of nearly 16,000 kilometres (8,500 nautical miles), opening up a new world of opportunities, securing opportunities in the tourism, trade, investment, business and education sectors for many years to come.
“For Queensland travellers it will mean having access to more non-stop ultra-long haul routes direct from Brisbane in an aircraft that offers unparalleled passenger comfort, while also positioning Brisbane as the new gateway for access into North America.
“It is a significant and very timely commitment by Qantas to base four of these state-of-the-art aircraft in Brisbane, particularly given Brisbane’s new runway will open in a few short years.
“While other ports are reaching maximum capacity, the new runway will double flight capability to and from Brisbane, positioning Brisbane and Queensland as the logical future major gateway to Australia.
Not only is this great news for passengers, it’s also a very exciting development for the Queensland economy. As a result of the port, 470 jobs will be created, with 100 flight and crew manning the four new-gen aircraft.
