The Best Contract-Free NBN Plans For Those Afraid To Put A Ring On It

Contributor: Jacqui Dent

I don’t know about you, but I hate contracts. That’s probably got something to do with the fact that I work for a comparison website. I see new NBN deals literally every day, and there’s no way I’m going to make a commitment to just one plan when a cheaper, prettier one could come along tomorrow.

The most important reason why I would never sign a contract, though, is that these days I don’t have to. No-contract NBN plans are easier to find than Tinder dates, and just as easy to ditch too if you don’t like them.

Here are a few that are super popular right now.

This plan from Tangerine Telecom is cranking right now on WhistleOut and it’s easy to see why. Not only is it contract-free, it’s also just about the cheapest price you can get for an unlimited NBN plan on Standard Plus speeds. If you’ve got your own modem, you won’t pay any sign-up costs. Or if you don’t, you can buy one for $89.90.

TPG has been kicking arse and taking names with its NBN plans this year, thanks to a winning streak on the ACCC’s NBN speed test program. The budget telco has come out at number one on nearly every test the ACCC has conducted. TPG quality doesn’t cost a bomb either, although if you want no-contract you do have to pay an upfront fee of $129.95.

Aussie Broadband has a reputation among tech nerds for fast and reliable service, and the nice thing is they won’t sting you with an upfront fee if you go no-contract. The unlimited plan is their most popular option, but if you want to save some money by lowering your data allowance, you can get as much or as little as you want, they’re super flexible.

Telstra’s plans aren’t the cheapest, but they’re popular for a reason. If you’re a non-tech, knowing you can reach them 24/7 for help can be worth paying for. One of the niftiest things about an NBN plan from Telstra is it comes with a smart modem – basically a modem with a SIM card in it to keep you online if there’s an outage.
