When Uber burst onto the scene in Australia in 2012, it sent the taxi industry into a right bloody meltdown. And for good reason, the service is better, cheaper and holds both the drivers and passengers accountable for their actions through the application and rating system.
There’s really no better feeling than catching an Uber at 4am when you’re absolutely belted and the legend has an entire box of chocolates waiting for you in the front seat. I nearly cried tbh.
But the one area that taxis always had over Uber is the ability to book a ride for a specific time. Well not anymore ya ride scheduling fiends, ‘cos Uber have introduced the feature today.
“Scheduled Rides is the top-requested feature from our riders,” an Uber spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“Even though we pride ourselves on providing on-demand rides, we totally get it. If you’ve got somewhere to be at a very specific time, it’s nice to have extra assurance that a ride will be available when you need it.”
“So whether it’s a 4am trip to the airport or early morning meeting on a Monday, with just a few taps to the app, riders are able to schedule an Uber ride for as little as 15 minutes to as many as 30 days in advance.”
You can now schedule an Uber in any of the following areas:
Brisbane: Merthyr, New Farm, Newstead and Teneriffe.Melbourne: CBD and inner suburbs.Perth: CBD, inner suburbs and Fremantle.Sydney: Eastern Suburbs and Inner West.
All ya gotta do is tap ‘Schedule a Ride’, set the time of pickup, your location and destination, then schedule that bad boy in. You can ditch the ride at any time and Uber will send you reminders both 24 hours and 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled time.
So there ya have it. Go forth and schedule yourself a little treat for after work or something. You deserve it.
