Animal Crossing fans are sure to be shitting their dacks today, with Nintendo finally announcing that a new title in the franchise is coming to the Nintendo Switch next year.

During today’s Nintendo Direct – which was rescheduled due to a goddamn typhoon ripping through Japan – the company first announced that Animal Crossing character, Isabelle, will be available as a fighter in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What a bloody trooper.

I can imagine folks were just about ready to throw their monitors out the window after such a vicious fake, but it wasn’t long before the beloved Tom Nook was giving a message to the audience.

“I see that Isabelle has joined the fight, hm?” he says. “It makes me so proud when my friends get out there and try new things!” Classic Tom, he’s such a sweetheart.

And then he drops the good news. “I’ve got to make sure everyone has a nice, new place to come home to when they’re ready, yes?” Fuckin’ YES mate. Suss the teaser for yourself below.

The end shows the game’s logo with the year 2019 underneath it, so you can expect the game at some point next year. That’s really all the information Nintendo is willing to give up for the moment. This will mark the first mainline Animal Crossing game since 2013’s New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo Direct revealed a few other little gems as well, so we’ll be doing a yarn on those pretty soon. Keep an eye out.
