Extending far beyond your flimsy metal rod, the DOBBY is a small, extremely portable smart drone fitted with a 13 megapixel camera capable of capturing full HD ariel footage of you doing handstands or whatever. While there’s certainly better drones out there for capturing film and images, it is an affordable option for those who’d rather not shell out thousands for the alternatives.
I got to take one of these cute little buggers for a spin yesterday to see how good it is and also to get some great aerial shots of me awkwardly standing around. As someone who has never really had any interest in drones, nor flown more than one (1), I was surprised at how easy it was to control via the iPhone app.
With a max ceiling of about 50 meters, you better believe I sent that bad boy up as high as I could, which is much higher than you realise once you’re there.
But where old mate DOBBY really stands out is also the most practical – the automated features that will get you the best shots. For example, you can lock the camera onto a moving object – such as yourself – and it will keep the camera focused on you as you move around.
Orbit mode will circle around you to ensure the best and most exciting shots of you hammering your 5th beer bong in a row, while other modes will let you get the smoothest automated zoom-in and out shots.
When you’re done getting sick footage of a heaps long wheelie on ya bike, you can land DOBBY in the palm of your hand, fold it up and whack it in your pocket.
