EA Officially Announces ‘Command & Conquer’ & ‘Red Alert’ Remasters

A little while ago, EA producer, Jim Vessella, made a quiet post on the OpenRA (a community dedicated to an open source version of Red Alert) website announcing that the company would be remastering games from the iconic Command & Conquer series at some point. EA has now officially announced remasters for both Tiberian Dawn and the OG Red Alert.

The Red Alert package will also include all three expansions, Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath. The announcement also continues the promise that no microtransactions included in the games, so it looks like they’re pretty serious about that.

In an attempt to allay the community’s concerns, EA has partnered with some of the team from back in the day, including “many of the original developers from Westwood Studios, and some of the most influential members of the original Command & Conquer development team from 1995.”

Series co-creator, Joe Bostic, Red Alert lead programmer, Steve Tall, the bloke behind a lot of the series audio, Mike Legg, and former composer, Frank Klepacki, are all on board to ensure the remasters maintain what made them great. Petroglyph Games will also be assisting with the remasters.

“I can tell you the past few weeks have been surreal,” Vessella said. “During my first visit to Petroglyph, I was able to brainstorm ‘C&C feel’ with [Bostic], sit with [Klepacki] and hear him recite Commando lines, and gab with [Tall] about whether we should fix the Tib Dawn Harvester AI.”

Lemon Sky Studios will be helping to bring the updated titles to a 4K resolution.

There’s no release date for the remasters yet, nor have they even started development, so you’re gonna have to be patient for these. In the meantime, OpenRA has a decent version of the original Red Alert you can take for a spin if you’re keen.
