Big Fashion Mood: Exclusively Dressing Like You’re A Dogtown Z-Boys Skater From 1978

I re-watched Lords Of Dogtown recently, and then in weird universe-gift fashion, I then was lucky enough to fly to LA with Vans for their Dogtown / Z-Boys retrospective event, BLACK RAINBOWS.

Both the film and the retrospective made me realise something – I would like to now channel my love of 70s fashion strictly into Californian Venice/Santa Monica skate style. Obviously for the die-hard skaters this just involved filthy jeans and Vans, all business. But in general the style was a bit of an edgier take on general American sun-soaked style.

For women, that looks like a blend of tomboy silhouettes like wide-leg jeans/overalls, crochet and summery halters. For dudes, you can’t go past Heath Ledger as Skip Engblom with his Hawaiian shirts and DGAF laid-back vibes:

But the Z-Boys themselves were all stripes, flannos and layering – here’s actual Jay Adams back in the day.

I’ve rounded up some stuff from the usuals if you’re keen to join me in cultivating this MOOD of an aesthetic.
