We’ve said it 4 billion times – the 90s trend is just deep diving upon deep diving. Where once it was just about borrowing a mild aesthetic from the decade, now we’re seeing full-blown trends replicating themselves in the 2019 fashion market. Like the painfully cool Venice Beach vibes of the Montague boys in the ever-iconic Baz Luhrmann flick, Romeo + Juliet.

I can’t think of a cooler aesthetic in a teen film than the threads worn by Romeo and his posse. While the Capulets had a fantastic fashion mood as well, the easiest to replicate day-to-day is definitely the laid-back party wardrobe of the Montague’s. Which is likely why it’s trending right now. The vibe goes under plenty of different trend names, but really all you’ve gotta do is be loud, accessorise and not be afraid of colour.
Key items are a colourful short-sleeved shirt – ideally with some sort of religious motif going on, clear-lensed 90s sunnies, some slightly cropped loose chinos and, if you want to really go full-on, a chain necklace. But there’s plenty of leeway here for holding back a little and leaning gently into the trend. Here’s some stuff I’ve found online, if you’re keen.
