Teen Boys In The UK Are Wearing Skirts To School Because It’s Too Damn Hot

If you don’t have a series of petulant British people clogging up your Twitter feed complaining about the weather, then you may not know that the UK is in the midst on a heatwave, the temperature reaching above 30 degrees yesterday, the day of the summer solstice.
Yes, you may not think above 30 degrees is all that hot, but the Tube is a sweatbox and homes in the UK are designed to retain heat during winter. It can be boilin’, okay, and usually leads to British people lolling in the grass after work like dead bumblebees.
It’s been so ruddy hot in fact that teenage boys from all year levels at the Isca Academy in Exeter turned up to school today in skirts, yep, skirts, and they all looked to be having a ball.
The students asked their headmaster earlier in the week if they could wear shorts instead of trousers to school during the heatwave, but he rejected their request.
Apparently, as a joke, head teacher Aimee Mitchell said, “Well, you can wear a skirt if you like.”
So five students protested on Wednesday by turning up in skirts borrowed from friends and sisters.

That protest has grown to a cast of about 30 in skirts today, some even carrying razors to school in case they were told their legs were too hairy for a skirt.
A statement on the school’s website from Mitchell allows for ties to be removed, top buttons undone, and shirts untucked during class:

We recognise that the last few days have been exceptionally hot and we are doing our utmost to enable both students and staff to remain as comfortable as possible

Shorts are not currently part of our uniform for boys and I would not want to make any changes without consulting both students and their families
However, with hotter weather becoming more normal, I would be happy to consider a change for the future.”

To be totally real with you rn, we’re just so proud of ’em. You go boys, you wear what makes you feel comfortable and you look classy as hell while doing it.
